Singing Lines, Soaring Lyricism

Rossini opens the afternoon with the wit and energy of The Barber of Seville before cellist Julian Schwarz joins the GSO for Saint-Saëns’s Cello Concerto No. 1. The cello enters almost immediately, moving between energetic passages and lyrical moments throughout the concerto. After intermission, Beethoven’s Symphony No. 2 brings bold contrasts, playful surprises and a high-energy finish.
