A Masterworks Finale
Tchaikovsky’s Violin Concerto takes center stage in the Masterworks finale, pairing sweeping melodies with dazzling solo writing and a fast-moving finale. Violinist William Hagen, third-prize winner at the 2015 Queen Elisabeth Competition, joins the GSO as soloist. Bernstein opens the afternoon with five playful miniature dances for brass quintet, while Copland’s Billy the Kid Suite closes the program with music inspired by the American West, from the open prairie to lively frontier scenes.
